FAQ’s
What is a speakeasy cellar door?
Speakeasy Cellar Doors is a community of artisanal winemakers who don’t have official cellar doors open to the public, but they do welcome visitors by appointment. We organise the tasting between you and the winemaker, trying to find a time that suits everyone’s availability.
What makes our winemakers different?
They’re often, but not always, one man bands. Where the winemaker grows the grapes, makes the wines, does the marketing and all the other fun stuff involved in bringing a wine to life. They often work as winemakers for the big brands you might recognise, but have their own personal projects. They’re the small producers in an industry increasingly owned by corporations.
How does it work?
Either choose a region you want to visit, or a winemaker whose wine you love and fill in the form with your preferred date and group size. From there, we check if the winemaker is available. If they are, they suggest a time frame which we confirm with you. If they’re not available we can suggest alternative dates, but in some instances we can’t make it work.
Once a booking is confirmed, we send you an invoice (we’re old school) to pay 3 days prior to your tasting. On receipt of payment we send you the address and any other information.
How much does it cost?
Tastings are $45 per person, of which $10 is redeemable per purchase, per person. For every visitor we plant a carbon positive tree; check out our partner Carbon Positive Australia for more information.
I’m a winemaker, how do I join the community?
Please get in touch! Our email is speakeasycellardoors@gmail.com.
What’s the mystery weekend?
You want to get out into the countryside but you don’t mind where you go. Let us know a date, and any other information. We can then suggest a region and a winemaker whose available and fits what you’re after.
How long do gift vouchers last for?
3 years from the date of issue.
